Downhill ski - Christmas Tree - Christmas Dance - Green Bay Packers

Hello everybody!

I know it's been a long time since I posted the last time, but I didn't had a lot of time since I started with downhill ski!
The snow is falling on Marquette Mountain and I joined the MSHS Downhill Ski team. It is pretty fun although I'm not the best but I give my best to get better every day! It is a lot of fun and I enjoy skiing very much!

And with the snow comes winter, and with winter comes christmas! I can't wait for christmas eve and morning! So excited! The christmas-spirit is coming up and and a christmas tree in our living room, with a lot of ornaments, which our dog loves to eat...and to puke out after...sassy dog!

I also had a lot of fun at the Christmas Dance at Marquette Senoir High School. It was a really nice evening and a really nice dancing partner!
All in all there are three formal dances through the year. I like that a lot and think that it is stupid how it was at my old school. There you only have a fromal dance in 9th grade and in 12th grade. I like it a lot more that in at my old school.

And there was a nother big, big event for me; The Green Bay Packers! My favorite football team in the world! They played on Monday Night Football at there homefield 'Lambeau Field' against the Atlanta Falcons and it was amazing! I went with Scott, Patrick and Patrick's dad. Thanks a lot to the Smiths for this opportunity and this great experience! I loved it so much and will never forget it!

The Packers won 43:36 against the Falcons! It was an amazing game and very tough game, but I'm happy that Green Bay won! We arrived home at about 3 am and my mom made me going to school on tuesday! Thank you very much! ;)

And by the way: Thanksgiving Day is an awsome day! So much and good food! It is awsome a lot of turkey and I eat myself a little bit more fat. We sat together with our family and had a lot of fun that evening!

See you soon!

Homecoming won - moment of wonder - Rotary fall conderence

Happy-Hello to the world!

We did it! We just did it! Rain- Mud - Cold - Dirt...

Marquette 9 : 8 Negaunee

We bet our rivals! Got the trophy back! The second oldest rivality in the state of Michigan! And we won!

It was the craziest game I've ever had.

And it was a moment of wonder!

Two years ago, one of our classmates died because of cancer. His jersey number was the number 4.

Yesterday Negaunee lead with 8 pionts and we had 6.

It was the 4th quater.

There were 4 seconds remaining.

We were on the 4 yard line.

It was the 4th down.

We kicked a field goal.

I was so afraid that I just could not watch it. We all took a knee and I turned my head.
Then everybody was jumping and screaming I knew that the field goal was good! We all ran on the field. Max, the kicker, jumped into the mud and and we all made a pile on him. It was so awsome!
To be honest, it was one of the best moments of my life. If you believe in wonders, this was one! I wished I could keep that moment for ever!

There it is! Our trophy!
So exciting!

Now to the Fall Conference!
I don't know how often I use the word awsome, but it is just AWSOME!
All the exchange students from Rotary District 6220, soem Rotex and Rebounds and all Outbounds were here! It was the amazings culturally exchange I've ever had. The students presented countries from  all over the globe. We had so much fun! For all of those who read this and think about an exchange year, DO IT! It doesn't care where you get send to, don't madder which country, continent or what ever, it will be the best year of your life! I share so many great moments with all the friends I found and all the exchange students! I just love my life!

And with this sentence,
Have a nice day!

Two Months - 6.437,11 - Fall Homecoming

Homecoming-Hello to everybody!

It is Homecoming-Day! I never had so much fun on one school day or in one school week!
Monday:        Pajama Day
Tuesday:        Multiple T-Shirt Day
Wednesday:   Sports Day
Thursday:      Bussiness Day
Friday:           Spirit Day

It was so much fun! I just love that class, all the seniors!

Today at 7:30 pm is the Homecoming game against Negaunee! We have to win because it is our homecoming, we want the trophy back and we want to play at home during the playoffs!
And we also have to win becasue it is Negaunee. Just becasue it is Negaunee, our rivals...

6.437,11 km away from home. 3999mi 1469.1yd away from my home town. I'm that far away from home for 2 months now. It is the 17th of October and I arrived two months ago on the 17. of August.
That means that there are only about 9 months left. It is kind of sad to see the days fly by. I wish I could keep some moments forever.

For now a happy-homecoming-good-bye and I tell you later how the game ended!

Football Fever - Preparing for Winter - Snow

A nice Yooper-Hello to everyone out there!

Football Fever! A interview from 'The Mining Journal' and a few days later I'm on the front page!
My football coach asked me whether I checked the Newspaper that morning. I responded "No, I didn't?" "Okay. Go home. Check he newspaper. Tomorrow the whole town knows you" coach Flint said. I got home and saw that! I was surpriesed! Front page, wow, didn't expect that!
On the next day I got thru the hall and some random people said: "Hey I saw you in the newspaper!" And today we met an older couple which my hostmom knows. And yeah they saw me on the newspaper as well!

#89

To be honest, I really got a football fever, and my team the Marquette Redmen, needs only 1 more win to reach the playoffs! We have one loss, our first game, and five wins in a row! Six are needed to reach the playoffs and that means we have to give everything in the next play! And we will!

And in the halftime of our last match last friday against kingsford it started to snow a little bit! It was kind of a snow-rain! In the beginning of October! My first american snow.rain! Oh.Yeah!

My hostparents say that it could start to snow now every day, so we also prepared our camp for winter. We put the boats and the docks out of the water. Was a sad moment because you know that the next time when you will water-ski or tube, it will be next summer! :( But anyways looking forward for fall and hunting season and for winter...ice fishing...^^

For now this was a little update for all the people I miss back in my homeland!

 Yooper-Good-Bye!

Longer Than a Month!

Hello everyone!

I'm now in the United States for over one month! If I think about it it goes really fast! It feels like the days are just passing by. One school day after the other. One football match after the other. One weekend after the other. One wunderful moment after the other! Fun at home, fun at camp, fun with fiends and neightbours! I wish that would never end!

Marquette is a really nice town where you can do a lot of stuff! On next Saturday it is Homecoming of the Nothern Michigan University and a few guys from the football team and me are going to that game of the Wildcats vs. Michigan Tech.

Before that game starts we will go to a german restaurant. ''Das Steinhaus'' is said to be very good; but I will proff that! ;)

Last Wednesday was my first Rotary Club meeting! All the Rotariens in the Marquette West Club are very nice and super friendly! Thanks for the nice birthday card! I was really surprised! Thanks a lot for that!

I wish this exchange year would never end! I really miss everything that I left back home at Germany! But I also know that I will miss this wonderful year! At this point I want to say thank you to my parents that give me the opportunity to earn this great experiences of exchange!
THANK YOU!!!

Missing Germany,
Marek

It's time - FIRST POST from the USA

Hey everyone!

I think it is time now! My first post from America after over 3 weeks here.

Let me start at the beginning!

My flight was not really exciting. My second flight from Chicago to Marquette was delayed of 3 hours so I had to stay in Chicago for 8 hours! Not really exciting...
But finally I got here and my hostfamily picked me up. It was nearly midnight when I arrived at the MQT sawyer airport.
The first night was good. I was very tired of the long flight.
On the next morning I had my first football practice. I loved football from the first time on! It is really fun!
The time went on and I familiarized me to my hostfamily and they to me! I found that you can do a lot of silly things with a little brother!
On my first weekend I had my first rotary meeting. All the inbounds in my host district are so awesome! We went on a fair and I got very very sick! But I didn't throw up...I was really sick!
Before the school started my parents took me to their camp at the Lake Independence! We made tube rafting and I did waterski! It is really nice their and I look forward to be there again!

Then on last Tuesday was my first school day! I was really nervous but on every class that I have there are some buds from my football team! That's really nice.
I can say that American school is very different to German school and I guess I like the American school system more than the German. :D
I found a lot of new friends because they have their lockers near to mine or I sit with them at the same table in the class. Also funny is that I am a senior in 12th grade with my 16 years!
My schedule looks like I have 7 hours every day but school starts at 7:30 am and ends at 2:21 pm. On every day it have the same lessons at the same time so my day starts with English class, than human anatomy and physiology, after that I have algebra 2 which is follow by 2 lessons of Health Occupations. My 6th lesson is learning center where you can do your homework and in 7th lesson I have US government. I really enjoy my schedule!

Right now I'm sitting in the bus on my to Wisconsin where me and my team have football match! Hope we win!

See you next time when I write something in my blog and when I post my first photos of the exchange year!
Best greetings to my home country!

And tomorrow I will fly to the United States of America! I'm really excited!

2 weeks left - last 14 days in Germany

In the last days or weeks until my exchange year I just start to realize it now...

On the one hand it is nearly  impossible to see all my friends in Germany during this year and when I'm back I will change school so these days might be the last days with some friends for a long time. That ist really something that makes me sad and I really start to miss them just now...

On the other hand it will be a very great year of my life and maybe the best of my life! So don't look back with tears in your eyes look forward to this special time if your life and try to make the best out of it! One of these things is to have as much fun as you can! An other thing is trying to stay with my friends in contact after my return! But if this doesn't work I can say: Guys it was a very nice time and I hope that we all will stand in contact when I'm back!

So to put it all in a nutshell: Yes of course I will miss you and it will be a hard and difficult time but it will also be the greatest time of my life - hopefully.

So for today stop being sad and have fun!

Yours Marek

A farewell gift from my class!

I was really surprised about that present because I had not expect a leaving present! But I guess this is the idea of surprising presents...

My class bought a T-shirt and they wrote all their names on the back of the shirt! That is very cool and I am very thankful! I will take it with me to the USA to have them in my mind all the time!
It was a very great time and that made me clear that I will really miss you during this exchange year!!

The farewell present from my class!
Thanks to Mr. Wieneke, Marvin, Marc, Jonas, Felix, Pit, Benedikt, Berit, Lea, Tessa, Zoë, Ina, Vanessa, Caroline, Carolin, Franziska B., Alicia, Sophie and Franziska L.

Only 24 days left - flight booked!

I booked my flight for the 17th of August to fly to the USA! In 24 days I will be at the airport of Frankfurt and check in for my flight! That's so exciting! The aeroplane takes off at 10:15 am CET and I will arrive at 8:15 pm American time. My fly goes from Frankfurt to Chicago and from there to Marquette! I have to wait in Chicago for 5 hours! But there is another exchange student from Germany who booked the same flight because she goes to the same city so I don't have to wait on my own ^^

I cannot believe that there are not even 4 weeks left until I fly - time goes so fast...but I'm happy!

Have a nice day!

Visa Confirmed!

Today I wa at the US embassy in Frankfurt. I had to wait in a long queue for nearly one hour but than I got in. There were a few counters which I had to pass but then at the last counter they told me that my visa is approved! I'm so happy! In about one week I'll get my passport back with my visa. I'm very happy that it all worked and there had no problems been!
So for today goodbye Frankfurt and for you have a nice day! :-)

Rotary Blazer! *-*

Finally it is there! My blazer came yesterday by mail! I waited for it so long because we ordered it but Rotary said we need to make annother order because the first firm wasn't able to produce them anymore. So I waited, and waited, and waited, one week, two weeks, one month, two months...
I stoped to count for how long I waited.

But my blazer is finally here! It is a very fine floss and it is very light! Looks great! What du you mean?

I really love to wear it! It feels like I'm going on exchange
tomorrow, like I enter an aeroplane which brings me to
Marquette...still dreaming!

Greetings and enjoy the football match Germany vs. Brazil! Hope Germany will reach the final game! ;)

So Much Paperwork!

It es very hard...there is so much of paperwork you have to do!
Filling in forms here, filling in forms there...

On the one hand this is really not nice because it takes so long time
to get your visa and to book your flight which is only possible
when you have your visa and after the application which you
need forms from the USA for you have to make an appiontment
at the US embassy for an intwerview and so on...

On the other hand it is really nice because you are filling out
those forms and you know: There are approximately 6 weeks left
until you fly to your exchange year! Today I made my
appiontment at the embassy in Frankfurt for the 11th of July which
is in 9 days! I can't wait to get there and know I in a couple of
days you will be at the place where you dreamed of one long
year!

So i am looking forward to fly to the USA!! Wohoo!
And now have a nice evening and hope that Germany will win tomorrow!

First Hostfamily!

Hey everyone!

A few days ago I got an e-mail from
my hostclub: They told me my first
hostfamily! Very nice! And the family is very sporty! Sounds good for my ears!

I really can't wait to fly there and have my exchange year!

But of course I will miss my friends at home in Germany!

Nice Greetings to all my friends!

Hello!

Hey guys!

My name is Marek Horst and I am going on an exchange year with Rotary International Youth Exchange.

I am from Germany and going to spent my year in the United States of America in the state Michigan!
My hometown will be Marquette which got a population of 21.000 people. The city is next to the Lake Superior, the 2nd biggest lake in the world!

I can't say on which day I will fly to this
wunderfull place but I guess it will be in middle of August.
Hope it doesn't take much more time.

If I could, I would fly tomorrow!
And come back as late as possible!

Nice greetings!
